Background
Company: Huon IT
Industry: IT Company
Locations: NSW and Victoria, Australia
Huon IT is a prominent IT company with operations spanning multiple countries. The company provides comprehensive IT solutions to large corporations, making it crucial for Huon IT to present a professional and modern online presence.

Problem Statement
Joanne, the marketing manager of Huon IT, approached us to redesign and redevelop their outdated website. The existing site was not only aesthetically unappealing but also confusing to navigate, which was perceived to be negatively impacting their brand image and client acquisition efforts. Given Huon IT’s clientele includes large corporations, having a sophisticated and user-friendly website was essential.
Project Objectives
- Modernize the Website Design: Create a design that reflects the company’s capabilities and aligns with its brand identity.
- Improve User Navigation: Simplify the site navigation to enhance user experience and retention.
- SEO Optimization: Ensure the site is optimized for search engines to increase visibility.
- Consistent Branding: Adhere to Huon IT’s global style guide to maintain brand consistency across all sister companies.
Methodology
- Initial Meetings and Research: The project began with a series of comprehensive meetings with key stakeholders at Huon IT, including marketing team members, content writers, IT specialists, and other relevant personnel. These discussions were crucial to gaining a deep understanding of Huon IT’s business objectives, target audience, and specific requirements for the new website.
- Site Mapping: Following the initial meetings, we developed a detailed sitemap focused on SEO optimization. This sitemap was designed to cater to what potential clients in the industry search for and reported needs, ensuring the services offered by Huon IT were presented in a simplified and accessible manner. The goal was to streamline the user journey, making it easier for visitors to navigate the site without being overwhelmed by IT jargon.
- Wireframing: The next step was creating wireframes. Wireframes serve as the skeletal blueprint of the website, outlining the basic structure and layout of each page. This stage is crucial as it allows stakeholders to visualize the placement of key elements such as content, navigation menus, and calls to action without the distraction of design details. Wireframes ensure that all parties agree on the functionality and flow of the website before moving into the design phase.
- Design Phase: Huon IT required adherence to an existing style guide to ensure consistency with their global branding. The design process involved creating mockups that followed this style guide, incorporating a sleek, modern aesthetic with intuitive navigation. The design team at Why Digital focused on clean lines, professional colour schemes, and a user-friendly interface that conveyed Huon IT’s technological expertise and reliability. The designs were presented to Huon IT in stages, with iterative feedback loops to refine and perfect the visuals.
- Development: Once the design was approved, the project moved into the development phase. Our development team utilized an agile methodology to ensure flexibility and timely delivery. The website was built to be responsive, ensuring optimal performance on various devices including desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Special attention was given to load times, security, and the ease of updating content through a user-friendly content management system (CMS).
- Training: Post-development, a comprehensive training session was conducted for selected members of the Huon IT team. This 4-hour session covered all aspects of managing the website’s backend, enabling them to update content, manage media, and make necessary changes independently. The training ensured that the Huon IT team could efficiently maintain the website and keep it up-to-date with minimal external assistance.
- Launch and Feedback: After finalizing the content and conducting thorough testing, the website went live. The launch was carefully monitored to address any initial issues promptly. The response from Huon IT and their clients was overwhelmingly positive. The new design received praise for its modern look and user-friendly interface. The improved navigation and SEO optimization led to a significant increase in site traffic and user engagement. Customer retention on the site increased by 86.56%, with the average time spent on the site rising from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

Conclusion
The Huon IT website redesign project was a resounding success, addressing all the initial pain points and meeting the client’s objectives. The collaborative approach, meticulous planning, and adherence to best practices in design and development played crucial roles in achieving these outcomes.
